Plans announced for an urban mobility hub/vertiport in Varese – investors sought

FS Sistemi Urbani, part of the FS Italiane Group, has announced its plans to develop an urban air mobility hub in Varese and has opened a call for investors to support the project.

According to the call-for-investors text:

“The area is located west of the historic center of the city of Varese, in an area with high accessibility. In addition to the FS station, in fact, there is a little further north the station of Ferrovie Nord. The urban fabric is characterized by residential buildings and small commercial activities…..In date 05.12.2023 is undersigned the Protocol of Understanding that sees the collaboration between the Municipality of Varese, Group FS Italian and FS Urban Hub, for the regeneration of the railway yard of Varese and the realization of a Mobility Hub.

Architects Giancarlo Zema Design Group designed the Mobility Hub at the site, including a large vertiport.

“The VVHUB / Varese Vertiport HUB, aims to be the first intelligent, multifunctional infrastructure in Europe, dedicated to the urban air mobility of the future,” says the architectural firm on its website. “An organic, environmentally sustainable architecture project that soars upward, almost suspended, within a technological, energy self-sufficient urban park. The roof garden becomes a sophisticated take-off area for electric passenger drones. “
