To embrace and accelerate these developments, Horizon 2020 projects managed by CINEA, namely, AiRMOUR, ASSURED-UAM, AURORA and FF2020, together with the UIC2 of the EU’s Smart Cities Marketplace, have launched the EU UAM Projects & Initiatives Community and already gathered support from projects under H2020, SESAR Joint Undertaking and the CIVITAS umbrella.
According to a press release:
“More projects and initiatives at European, national and local level are invited and are welcome to join this newly established community. By leading an ecosystem of cross-sectoral stakeholders, the EU UAM Projects & Initiatives Community aims to foster the advancement of European urban aviation, mobility and digital infrastructure in support of the EU’s Green Deal and Digital Agenda.
“These are two outstanding examples of policies and objectives that illustrate the benefits and impact of Urban Air Mobility – creating a sustainable and responsible, digital Europe with, at its core, European values and providing the best possible service to and for all citizens.
“The EU UAM Projects & Initiatives Community aims to set the stage for Urban Air Mobility by establishing a collaborative and exchange platform linked to the European Green Deal and Digital Agenda, in which each project is contributing with its own focus and expertise.
“The community will focus on the following topics:
- Awareness-raising and training of local authorities, institutions and medical facilities
- Governance, regulations and liability
- Digital infrastructure to manage large(r) numbers of Unmanned Aircraft
- Digital toolbox for U-space services
- Societal acceptance and co-creation of solutions through the engagement of stakeholders 6
- Sustainable and environmentally friendly UAM development
- New business models: products and services fit for the future
- UAM foresight studies
“We are building a community that will enable us to provide better insights to further assist the European Commission with the broad adoption of the Drone Strategy 2.0,” said Arthur Dallau, Impact Coordinator of FF2020. “Furthermore, we are working together to shape the third dimension in cities through Urban Air Mobility. With this action, we hope to inspire the European Commission to continue investing in this form of mobility, which brings together technology, infrastructure and business for a positive impact on cities and their citizens.”
“The EU UAM Projects & Initiatives Community calls for interested projects and initiatives at European, national and local levels to become part of the UAM ecosystem and to participate in the first community webinar on 20th April 2022, where they will have the opportunity to discuss new possible areas of collaboration and their vision for the future UAM ecosystem, as well as the type of institutional leadership and support that is necessary to make this European community a success.”
