Vertiports and eVTOL traffic management research part of new SESAR EUR230 million funding round

Innovative air mobility and vertiports are among projects to be funded as part of the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) Joint Undertaking (JU) latest proposals for new exploratory and industrial research projects.

The applied research call includes research to help shape the future regulatory framework for a Digital European Sky and the integration of the next generation aircraft for zero/low emission aviation.

The industrial research call, with a budget of EUR 230 million, focuses on advancing the six development priorities defined in the European ATM Master Plan and reflects the need to focus on developing next generation platforms. These six development priorities for industrial research are: transformation to trajectory-based operations, transition towards high performance of air-ground connectivity (multilink), future en-route and TMA ground platforms, future airport platform, autonomy and digital assistants for the flight deck, and U3 U-space advanced services, innovative air mobility and vertiports.

Under the Digital European Sky (DES) research and innovation programme, within the framework of Horizon Europe, these calls mark the first steps in executing the new European ATM Master Plan.

Project consortia have from 1 April until 16 September to make their submission.
