World Economic Forum publishes report on how AAM can evolve in India

The World Economic Forum has published a report Skyways to the Future: Operational Concepts for Advanced Air Mobility in India, exploring how advanced air mobility (AAM) can reshape India’s urban and regional transport landscape.

“As India ranks third globally in domestic air traffic, this report serves as a strategic guide for local policy-makers to adopt AAM,” says the forum in a press release. “It highlights key areas, including airspace management, infrastructure development and regulatory needs to support a phased AAM roll-out nationwide. Emphasizing economic impacts, AAM offers solutions to urban congestion, enhances access to remote areas, and creates new market opportunities – ultimately supporting India’s development goals.

“The report calls for an integrated vertiport network, advanced technologies and a regulatory framework, outlining actions to address noise, energy and community acceptance challenges. Through AAM, India can increase access to jobs, healthcare and markets, driving social inclusion and economic growth.”

According to the report:

“The India advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) market is experiencing robust growth and is projected to reach USD7.99 billion by FY 2031 from USD1.52 billion in FY 2023. India is seen as a key market with the potential to shape the future of global transport and infrastructure. In the AAM sector, given the population, geography and challenges in surface transport and aspirations, India is best placed to create an ecosystem that is supportive of and adaptive to diverse geopolitical environments. Taking lessons from conventional aviation in India, it is pertinent to establish and develop the entire value chain (including production, operations, support and services) to reap optimum benefits from this new ecosystem. The sector will gain much-needed momentum with incentive schemes focused on design, performance and employment, positioning India as a key player in AAM.”
