Drone Delivery Canada Launches Second Contract with DSV

According to dronelife.com, Toronto-based Drone Delivery Canada(DDC) has picked up its second contract with DSV Air & Sea Inc. With the assistance of Air Canada, DDC will deploy its drone delivery platform to help DSV deliver healthcare-related cargo from its warehouse in Milton, Ontario.

Last year, DDC announced the initial partnership with the European logistics/transport group to provide a drone delivery platform to the company’s new Canadian air and sea division. Flying a route of just over two miles, a Sparrow drone will drop untethered cargo in a designated area shared by several DSV customers before returning to a home station.

DDC will remotely monitor the flights from its operations centre in Vaughn, Ontario. Flights are set to begin in the third quarter of this year and will be conducted in accordance with Canadian aviation regulations.

“We are currently flying hundreds of successful flights per month at DSV for their first route and we are pleased to announce a second paid route,” commented DDC CEO Michael Zahra.  “DSV is a global leader in the logistics space and a perfect fit as a scalable customer for us.”

Zahra continued, “DSV will use our proven Sparrow drone with the new cargo drop functionality, patented FLYTE system, and commercial operations centre. It’s very fulfilling to DDC to provide DSV a solution to help deliver important healthcare related cargo given the current situation.”

Zahra went on to explain, “Our partnership with DDC and Air Canada Cargo provides the opportunity to fulfil our clients’ needs, ensuring time sensitive, critical cargo can be delivered locally with accuracy, efficiency and minimal person-to-person contact.  We are excited to optimise our clients’ supply chains and are now exploring the true potential of drone innovation.”

Earlier this month, DDC collaborated with GlobalMedic and Air Canada to provide COVID-related drone delivery to Christian Island, a remote territory governed by the Beausoleil First Nation Community in Ontario.
