Sarla ‘to expand air taxi service to Mumbai and Delhi’

Sarla Aviation plans to launch electric air taxis in Mumbai and Delhi after planned services launch in Bengaluru, aiming for nationwide service by 2028, according to a report by India’s Financial Express.

Company CEO and co-founder Adrian Schmidt spoke to the national newspaper at the Startup Mahakumbh event, which ran from April 3-5.

In 2024, Sarla Aviation signed a partnership with Bengaluru International Airport Limited to launch electric air taxis at Kempegowda International Airport. The proposed route from the airport to Bengaluru’s Electronics City would take approximately 19 minutes, compared to the 152 minutes required by road. Schmidt said Mumbai and Delhi operations would follow around two months after the Bengaluru service becomes operational.

Sarla unveiled its prototype air taxi, Shunya, in January, which is designed to carry up to six passengers on 20-30 km trips and can reach speeds of up to 250 kmph.
