Rio/Tom Jobim International Airport (Galeão) and the Brazilian air mobility startup MICAELIS have agreed to conduct autonomous test flights of eVTOLs to and from the airport, design and install an integrated vertiport and optimize the passenger and cargo journey between the airport terminal and the vertiport. This MOU, initially set for 24 months, “marks a major milestone in the evolution of airport infrastructure and urban mobility in Brazil, positioning Rio de Janeiro at the forefront of innovation in sustainable air transportation,” said a joint press statement. “The integration of eVTOL services will significantly enhance the airport’s connectivity to the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area….The development of an app to manage passenger and cargo flows will elevate the travel experience.
