Malaga airport “to trial Lilium flights to Marbella and Granada, starting in 2025”

The SurinEnglish news website reports that Malaga airport will start test flights with Lilium eVTOLs in 2025.

Air navigation service provider ENAIRE and Crida, its R+D subsidiary have been looking for an airport to test eVTOL operations and Malaga was one of the first volunteers, according to the news site.

ENAIRE is a partner in both the Ensure U-space programme and the SESAR OperA project which is researching how to connect the airport with advanced air mobility vehicles in urban centres.

“The OperA project also envisages building a vertiport at the airport….and will be equipped with high-power electrical charging points,” according to the news source. “The possibility of having an annex terminal or using the existing ones is also being studied. Aena, responsible for the ground area, is looking for possible locations.”

Two services are being trialed: between Malaga to Marbella, a 15-20 minutes journey and Malaga-Granada, which will take about 50 minutes.

“The first test operations will be between Malaga and Granada, and the idea is to begin in the second half of 2025. The corridors for these operations are already being designed so that they are compatible with traditional flight paths,” said the report.
