Korea’s Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) performed a flight demonstration of its AAM prototype aircraft Optionally Piloted Personal/Passenger Air Vehicle (Oppav) at Samarinda Airport in Indonesia on July 29, in cooperation with Hyundai, at a AAM demonstration close to the new capital city Nusantara. Hyundai provided the distributed electric propulsion technology to the Oppav electrified powertrain.
The OPPAV technology demonstrator can vertically take off and land and can cruise at a speed of 200km/h or more.
Hyundai also displayed its S-A2 eVTOL mock-up at the event.
Hyundai signed a strategic cooperation agreement in 2022 with the Nusantara Capital Authority, verifying ground and air mobility transportation concepts and conducting on-site tests. The Korean company sees Indonesia, with its 18,000 islands, as a core market.
