India’s BluJ “conducts first flight of its hydrogen-powered VTOL prototype”

Indian Aerospace Defence News reports that Hyderabad-based startup BluJ Aerospace Private Limited has successfully conducted a flight test of India’s first hydrogen-electric propulsion based vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft prototype.

BluJ is developing two hydrogen-powered VTOL types. BluJ “Reach” is targeted towards unmanned logistics, for long range and heavy payloads and will incorporate autonomous flight and an electric powertrain, “setting the pathway for sustainable and commercially viable air cargo,” said the company.

“Hop” is a hydrogen-powered passenger VTOL. “Built for long-range regional travel and high payload capacity, it delivers a quieter, cleaner, and safer flying experience, says the company. “By optimizing range and efficiency, we ensure both environmental responsibility and better operational economics.”
