Hyundai Motor Group has announced that it will invest USD 6 billion to drive innovation and expand strategic partnerships with US companies in areas including advanced air mobility (AAM), autonomous driving, robotics and artificial intelligence.
The investment is part of a USD 21 billion funding injection in the United States from 2025 to 2028.
The AAM funding will include research and development support for Supernal, the group’s AAM business, with the aim of commercialising an eVTOL vehicle by 2028. The aircraft, S-A2, was first unveiled in January 2024. Designed for urban operations, S-A2 is expected to cruise at 120 mph and have an initial range of 60 miles to meet typical city operation needs. The aircraft utilises a distributed electric propulsion architecture and is being developed to meet community noise standards.
Supernal will initiate prototype testing of S-A2 in 2026, following feedback from flights with its full-scale technology demonstrator.
