Multiple press reports say North Carolina-based Honda Aircraft is moving forward in the development of its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, recently receiving Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval for flight testing. The agency reportedly issued Honda Research Institute a certification for an electric rotorcraft with registration N241RX in December 2022.
According to a General Aviation Manufacturers Association Linkedin post:
“The FAA’s exemption allows Honda to conduct demonstration flights through October 2026 with a scaled-down test model weighing over 55 pounds. Although few details have been released, Honda describes the design as a multi-rotor configuration with both lifting and propulsion propellers, emphasizing quieter operation than traditional helicopters. The project benefits from Honda’s experience in certifying aircraft, with ambitions to bring advanced electric aircraft to the skies in the near future.”
There has been no confirmation of this report by Honda.
