UK start-up Drone Defence raise EUR550,000 to combat illegal drone use

A US-based corporate investor, to help counteract the public’s fear of drones invading their privacy, has given as seed funding, EUR550,000 to UK start-up Drone Defence, reports eu-startups.com.

Apart from photographing and filming and barking out commands in the street, invading public’s privacy can also include spying on companies, delivering drugs into prisons, as well as being deployed by terrorist or activist organisations.

Founded in 2017 by former British Army Officer, Richard Gill, Drone Defence addresses security concerns over the illegal use of drone technology. The company aims to be one step ahead, as such craft change the way mankind views, interacts with, and will eventually fly around our planet. The start-up has already made deployments internationally, including its SkyFence drone-blocking product in Guernsey prison.

Richard Gill, founder and CEO of Drone Defence said, “This investment is going to drive our business forward and enable us to achieve our ambition of safely integrating small autonomous vehicles into general airspace. It will allow us to hire the experts needed to develop our prior proprietary technology and integrate it with our existing market leading mitigation technology.”

The company are currently recruiting as the business expands. This is particularly welcome news during challenging times for many businesses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gill continues, “The investment will also give us the springboard to launch into the America’s markets and with early interest from significant customers, it is clear that the drone security market is only set to grow.”
