Lilium opts for carbon fibre composite produced by Toray

Japan’s Toray is to supply carbon fibre composite materials for Lilium’s all-electric air vehicle, reports plasticstoday.com. Toray Industries has concluded an agreement with the Munich-based company who aims to have all-electric, vertical take-off and landing aircraft to deliver clean, regional air mobility, by 2025.

Carbon fibre composite materials are vital to lighten electric-driven vehicles like the Lilium Jet. Toray is increasing ties with the German company and other manufacturers as it innovates materials to enhance performance, help the conservation of energy, whilst lowering economic costs. The Lilium Jet’s fuselage, wings, rotor vanes, and other structural components will use Toray’s products. The aircraft will take up to four passengers and its pilot and can fly 300 kms in less than 60 minutes
