AAMI, NAA partner to launch Pulitzer speed competition for electric aircraft

The Advanced Air Mobility Institute has announced an agreement with the US National Aeronautic Association (NAA) for the revival of the Pulitzer Trophy Race in Fall 2025, marking the 100th anniversary of the last running in 1925.

“The original race series was designed to achieve public acceptance for aviation itself,” said the institute in a press release. “Now, a century later, the AAM Institute, with the blessing of the NAA, will re-launch the Pulitzer Trophy annual race series in the hopes of similarly achieving public acceptance for Advanced Air Mobility.

“The National Aeronautic Association is thrilled to see the revival of air racing and energized to see this race highlight the future of aviation,” said Amy Spowart, President and CEO, NAA. “Witnessing history being made and providing the award to celebrate the winner of the competition will energize the next generation of aviation legends.”

Institute Founder Dan Sloat, said: “Our intent is to celebrate the beautiful diversity of design among all forms of electric aircraft. We welcome eCTOL, eSTOL, and eVTOL alike. Ultimately, this is a speed race for the chance to have your name added to the list of heroic pilots honoured with the legendary Pulitzer Trophy at the National Air & Space Museum in DC.”

The Pulitzer Race Director, retired US Air Force Colonel Scott Neumann, said. ”We have designed the first Pulitzer Electric Aircraft Race in a way to honor the legacy of the original races from a century ago and at the same time to highlight the amazing potential of this new form of air transportation as it emerges – this race bears witness to the beginning of the electric age of flight.”
