Shenzhen “announces plans for over 1,200 drone/eVTOL take off and landing platforms”

China’s Shenzhen has pledged to invest 12 billion yuan (USD1.7 billion) in infrastructure for the low-altitude economy over the next two years, building over 1,200 take-off and landing platforms for air taxis and drones by 2026, according to an article in The South China Morning Post.

The Development and Reform Commission, according to a report by the state-run Shenzhen Economic Daily, said “Shenzhen had built 249 take-off and landing facilities by the middle of this year, and aims to add 147 more by the end of this year. It is planning to complete another 658 facilities in 2025.”

“The city will also build more than 8,000 new 5G-Advanced base stations to bolster wireless network coverage for airspace below 600 metres and launch the Smart Integrated Lower Airspace System, dubbed the “brain for lower airspace”, by the end of this year, according to the report.

“Shenzhen plans to invest another 20 billion yuan into the low-altitude economy between 2026 and 2030, according to the city’s Development and Reform Commission.

“Meituan has launched multiple drone food delivery routes in Shenzhen parks, commercial areas and the immigration port for entering neighbouring Hong Kong. Xpeng also launched a flight trial for its autonomous flying car in the city’s central business district in May.”
