SiriusJet “to test proprietary aircraft hydrogen fuel tank prototype in January 2025”

SiriusJet is actively developing metal hydride-based hydrogen storage technologies for its own use, according to the aircraft manufacturer in a Linkedin post.

The company is developing the SiriusJet hydrogen-powered regional aircraft with a range of 1,150 miles.

“In January 2025, we plan to conduct tests of our proprietary hydrogen tank prototype to confirm its parameters and safety. The technology, which originated from the space industry, is five times more efficient than the existing solutions available today. SiriusJet intends to make this a separate business line, offering its own aviation hydrogen storage tanks for the aviation and even space markets.

The hydrogen aviation market is rapidly evolving, continues the company, with constant innovations in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells and composite materials, enhancing the efficiency and safety of hydrogen storage.

“Efforts are underway to develop a comprehensive hydrogen refuelling infrastructure, including partnerships between airports and energy companies, and the introduction of mobile refueling stations. The market is also showing significant growth, with a 30% increase in R&D investments in hydrogen aviation over the past six months.”
