The Lulacerda news website in Brazil reports that Brazilian company Micaelis will take part in the next Rio de Janeiro smart city sandbox trials with EHang EH-216 eVTOLs.
“Micaelis, founded by entrepreneur Vincent Kieffer, which specializes in technology solutions for air mobility…was selected among the six projects in the second cycle of the Sandbox,” according to the news reports.
“With the monitoring and control of the aeronautical authorities, we will define the parameters, location and configurations of the tests,” Kieffer was quoted as saying. “Brazil has the resources and technology to develop, produce, operate and monitor such aircraft locally. The speed of market development will guide the growth of the industry and the ecosystem and a ride could cost the same as an Uber Black ride,” he told the news source.
“The goal is to propose to the city government an additional mobility option that is integrated with the others and that can allow connections between public transport, such as subway or bus. In this ecosystem, federal, state and municipal public authorities each have their role alongside technology companies that will allow the installation of ‘vertiports’ with the appropriate equipment related to the passenger or cargo route from where the eVTOLs will take off, define and monitor”, he said.
