China’s Civil Airports Association publishes new vertiport standards

According to China’s Baidu news agency “On May 22, the China Civil Airports Association has released the group standard “Technical Requirements for Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing Aircraft (eVTOL) Landing Fields” at the 5th China Airport Development Conference. The standard was officially launched at the end of 2023 and is China’s first technical specification for electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) landing fields. The standard is divided into 11 chapters, which clearly explain many technical parameters of electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) landing fields, such as physical characteristics, obstacle restrictions, site selection, structural design, and special facilities and equipment.

“In October 2023, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and four other ministries jointly issued the “Outline for the Development of Green Aviation Manufacturing Industry (2023-2035)”, proposing that eVTOL fixed-point operation should be achieved by 2025;

“In December 2023, the National Air Traffic Management Committee organized the formulation of the “National Airspace Basic Classification Method”, adding Class G airspace below 300 meters true altitude and Class W airspace below 120 meters true altitude, so that eVTOL, light and small drones, and general aviation have legal low-altitude airspace. In January 2024, the Civil Unmanned Aircraft Operation Safety Management Rules (CCAR-92) were officially released as the first regulatory document for drone operations;

“The 2024 National People’s Congress will include “low-altitude economy” in the government work report, clearly identifying the development of low-altitude economy as a new growth engine.”
