Airspeeder eVTOL 2023 air race championship concludes: planning starts for 2024

Airspeeder reports the conclusion of the 2023 Airspeeder EXA Series Championship in what it describes as “a groundbreaking moment that will go down in the annals of motorsport history”.

Competitors took part in a three-race championship, flying in Alauda Aeronautics Aeronautics Mk3 eVTOLs. The 4.1-meter eVTOL features, a carbon fiber construction full-scale racing quadcopter with a top speed of 100 km/h and acceleration from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds. The race was won by Zephatali Walsh whose achievement,Airspeeder says “solidifies Walsh’s position as a trailblazer in eVTOL racing but also marks the world’s first-ever race between three eVTOL craft.

“The stakes were high as the racing enthusiasts and aviation aficionados gathered at Stonefield Airfield, South Australia, to witness the culmination of the EXA Series. The challenging wet and windy conditions added an extra layer of excitement to the competition, making it a true test of the pilots’ skills and the capabilities of the Alauda Aeronautics Mk3s.

With over 100 spectators in attendance, the race showcased cutting-edge technology, featuring innovative onboard cameras from EMG that streamed 1080i live footage from all Speeders via RF. The event was also recorded as a live broadcast, with the NEP Group spearheading the initiative, turning the race into a dynamic testbed for future race broadcasts. The combination of live streaming and recorded broadcasts ensured that the excitement and thrill of the EVTOL race reached audiences worldwide.”
