Volocopter has announced on social media that it has received Federal Aviation Administration G1 certification basis for its multicopter aircraft under the special category rotorcraft. The company reports “With the rotorcraft category we are linked to a well-established category within the FAA system, which means that in our case there is a straightforward path not only to certification, but also to operation. I can say with confidence that we know exactly what is needed for us to achieve it.
“Since our application in 2020, we are in constant exchange with both, FAA and EASA – European Union Aviation Safety Agency to receive concurrent validation of our EASA Type Certificate. The G1 issue paper finally freezes the certification basis used for validation, equivalent to the CRI-A01 that we received from EASA in 2021. Having properly synched Certification Requirements, we are able to demonstrate compliance for both authorities at the same time.”
