Milan planning for Skyports vertiports and air taxis at 2026 winter Olympics

L’Economia, the Italian news channel, reports that Milan has announced work will start in 2024 to build two vertiports in Citylife and Porta Romana and two more in Linate and Malpensa.  The first flights it says will be in 2026 – on the occasion of the Winter Olympic Games.

According to the news report: “when fully operational two thousand passengers a day will use the service which will start initially as a Malpensa-city center “shuttle”, at around 120 euros per passenger, then at 70-80 euros.

“SEA, the company that manages the two airports, has announced the creation of a new company that will take care of the design, construction and management of the vertiports. The new company will be owned 51% by SEA, 30% by Skyports and 19% by 2i Aeroporti (which is also a shareholder of SEA).

“Milan’s move is in some way a response to Rome’s intentions where Aeroporti di Roma, the company that manages the Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, plans to start the first connections in the city and between the city and the airports by taxi in 2025 working with Volocopter.”
